UCF events focus on safety 1 year after gunman’s campus attack plot
One year after a gunman killed himself before carrying out a planned attack at the University of Central Florida, the school is focusing on safety this week as it hosts a series of events on how to handle emergencies and disasters on campus.
UCF police found James Seevakumaran dead from a self inflicted gunshot wound in his dorm room in Tower One on March 18, 2013.
Near Seevakumaran’s body, they found a bag of improvised explosive devices, a handgun, a rifle and a hastily written to do list that included “Get drunk,” “pull alarm,” and “good luck and give them hell!”

There will also be training about the UCF Alert mass notification system. The university used the alert system to notify students and staff of last year’s gunman scare.
